CPR Training

The Friends of Sebastian Inlet started sending volunteers to get qualified in CPR, First Aid and AED(Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) on February 21st. This has been a long time coming said Gerry Audlee, president of Friends. We are hoping to train all Park Watch volunteers as well as any other volunteers that may want to get the 2 year Red Cross certification. Classes will continue for the foreseeable future as long as interest is there. The park now has 4 AED units that are located at the north and south gates with the 2 remaining yet to have dedicated locations. Instructor Ranger Addie Finegan is Red Cross Certified and does a great job getting students involved and  feeling comfortable with lifesaving skills learned in the class.

Volunteer Appreciation Lunch

The Friends of Sebastian Inlet State Park sponsored and held a volunteer appreciation lunch on November 15.  86 people enjoyed catered food from the 2002 Restaurant.  Over 200 volunteers help keep Sebastian Inlet State Park looking clean and running smooth.

At the volunteer appreciation lunch Ed and Doris Ramsey were recognized for each volunteering 10,000 hours.   Presenting the Ed and Doris Ramsey with a plaque is the President of the Friends of Sebastian Inlet State Park Gerry Audlee.

Mileage Reimbursement

With the loss of the RSVP mileage reimbursement, park volunteers may want to take advantage of the Internal Revenue Service tax deduction.  The IRS allows a yearly tax deduction of $0.14 per mile for charitable (volunteer) travel.

Reward for 500 hours of service:

PARK VOLUNTEERS: Did you know as a reward for 500 hours of your hard volunteer work at Florida State Parks you can apply for a free Special Volunteer Annual Pass? This special volunteer annual pass is good for the volunteer and their immediate family at Florida State Parks.  Also, it can be used for a 20% off at all shops at Homosassa Springs State Park.

Stop by the Sebastian Fishing Museum and pick up a Request for Volunteer Annual Pass form (FPS A010 195).   The volunteer has to fill out this short form and give it to Terry O’Toole.  Terry will verify the hours and submit the form.  Tallahassee will send the state park pass to the volunteers home.

This is another way for the Florida Park Service to say THANK YOU for all your help!
