McLarty Speaker Series - Allen Balogh

Allen Balogh is a retired educator who taught Advanced Placement College Courses in U.S. and World History for more than twenty years. In 1985, he began exploring the shipwreck locations of the famous 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet off the coast of Hutchinson Island, Florida. He is a lecturer and historian on the Golden Age of Piracy.


Black Sails 1715 was the first of his Black and Gold series which caught the eye and favorable comment from James Patterson. His second novel, Goat with the Glass Eye, was awarded Bronze Historical Fiction by the Florida Writers Association. And his third was a children’s book, Mimi’s Mermaids published in January 2021.


He is currently writing the fourth in the series, 1715 Fleet, A Perilous Journey from Cuba. The novel was prompted by his research in Havana, Cuba, and a continuation of the series. Allen will be selling and signing his books in person.
